Ghana’s public data, behind one index.

Digital Ghana builds small, source-linked open APIs for the facts every Ghanaian product needs and nobody wants to maintain. GhanaData is where you find them, see what they actually return, and check whether they are up.

The problem

The same week of work, rebuilt in every project.

Ghana has plenty of public information. What it has lacked is that information in a shape a program can consume — versioned, addressable, and traceable back to the office that published it.

If you build software

You have almost certainly done some of this by hand, and paid for it later in production:

  • Pasted a holiday list from a news article into a constants file, then found it wrong in January.
  • Fuzzy-matched district names across two spreadsheets and quietly dropped the rows that did not join.
  • Written the Ghanaian phone-number regex again, slightly differently, in a fourth language.
  • Scraped a ministry site to learn which agency owns a service, with no idea when the page last changed.
  • Hardcoded an emergency number from a blog post, with no record of who verified it.

Each one is an afternoon, then a bug, then a maintenance burden that never shows up on a roadmap. These APIs remove the afternoon and carry the provenance for you.

If you care where the facts came from

A number without a source is a rumour with better formatting. Every record these services publish carries a source ID, a verification date and a dataset version, so an answer can be audited and a wrong answer can be corrected with evidence.

  • Source-linked. Records point at the office that published them.
  • Deliberately incomplete. A small verified subset beats a broad stale directory.
  • Reproducible. Datasets are versioned; historical answers are not rewritten.
  • No lock-in. Apache-2.0, open contracts, exportable data.
  • Independent. Not operated by, or endorsed by, any government body.

The index

Every API, and what it is for.

Status below reflects what was verified on 12 September 2026. The status page checks each service live.

Quickstart

Nothing to install, no key to request.

Every live API is public and read-only. There is no signup, no token and no quota to negotiate — but each service allows browser requests only from its own product site, so call these from a terminal or your own server rather than from front-end JavaScript.

Is today a working day?

GhanaCalendar answers with the holiday that made the decision, and the source it came from.

curl -s \
  'https://api-calendar.digitalghana.dev/v1/working-day?date=2026-03-06'

Which institution owns a service?

GhanaGov returns verified institutions with aliases, hierarchy and the date each was checked.

curl -s \
  'https://api-gov.digitalghana.dev/v1/institutions'

What GhanaData is today

An index first. A gateway only when it is earned.

GhanaData is the portfolio’s developer surface. Right now that means one honest index of the live APIs, their contracts and their real status. A unified gateway — shared keys, quotas, cross-product queries — is deliberately deferred until more products reach stable, because a gateway over unstable services just moves the instability somewhere harder to debug.
